Department of English/Language Arts

The Department of English/Language Arts strives to provide a comprehensive, high-quality program that allows students to improve comprehension and aids them in communicating effectively in a variety of settings. Students develop their literacy skills through reading, writing, listening, speaking and have a variety of opportunities to present their ideas in multiple forms. Students have access to teachers who have high expectations for student achievement and offer a rigorous curriculum using the Common Core Standards. Students read, interpret, and evaluate texts for the purpose of recognizing the role of such texts on the individual, society and the global community. A relevant and responsive curriculum provides students an opportunity to integrate 21st Century skills such as innovation, problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration, communication and technology within all core disciplines. Students will graduate prepared to enter the global workforce and become a productive member of the community and society.
