Dr. Alan Kay - Grand Opening Ceremony
This truly is an amazing day and one in which I am proud to be a part of. High School represents the culmination of our student’s K-12 educational program and one which will set the stage for the rest of their adult life. It is made up of not only the academic portion such as going to class, doing homework, and studying for finals, but also fond memories of attending dances, competing in sporting events, participating in clubs, serving in community events, and having opportunities to grow in any number of ways. Lifelong relationships are built and memories of teachers, staff, and friends who pushed us to achieve in ways we never thought possible are made. Some of those teachers and staff who will help to make those memories are here today and I would invite them to stand for just a moment to be recognized. These staff members chose to be a part of something new and exciting. They chose to help open this new high school and are committed to making a difference in building this community into one where we can all be proud. We have a saying on our website and one which I shared with the staff in the beginning of the year and that is, “Understanding the Past, Exploring the Future.” This statement recognizes that we need to know where we come from and that the types of experiences that each of us bring forward are unique and valuable. It also leads us to know that we have to explore the future and be ready for new challenges. Our team here at Indian Springs along with the support of the District Office is committed to preparing our students for these new challenges by following the qualities of what a 21st century learner will need to be able to do. Qualities such as:
· Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
· Collaboration across Networks and Leading by Influence
· Agility and Adaptability
· Initiative and Entrepreneurialism
· Effective Oral and Written Communication
· Accessing and Analyzing Information
· Curiosity and Imagination
Indian Springs utilizes these components in our work to prepare students for the college or career of their choice. By being prepared with these types of skill sets through a sound education and a special emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, we are confident that students at Indian Springs will be prepared to excel in their future endeavors.
It is also our hope that as they gain the confidence and skill set to be successful, that this will foster in them a strong sense of pride not only from the school they will graduate from, but the community that helped to raise them to be excellent citizens. We also recognize that this work is not done in isolation. It requires dedicated partners in areas such as business, faith-based organizations, government, and of course parents.
This grand opening serves as one of many invitations to all of you to be part of something special, something that will instill pride in our community, assist in building a viable economy in our city, and effect long-term change for a future that their children will be ready for. It is with pride that the staff of Indian Springs takes on this charge and I am so excited to tell you that with your support and the support of our district, we will make a difference in the lives of students here at Indian Springs High School, home of the Coyotes!
