School Bus Transportation/Empty Seat Program
Bus passes are issued before the start of school to all students who live more than three- and one-half miles from Cajon High School. Only students with passes may ride school buses, and each student must show his/her pass to the bus driver. Passes may not be loaned to others; if a student loans his/her pass, he/she may lose the privilege of riding the bus. Students must carry their bus pass every day in order to ride the bus.
The School District Transportation Office, not Cajon High school, assigns bus stops. Problems concerning buses, behavior on buses, loading, complaints about drivers, bus stops, etc., should be directed to the Transportation Office at (909) 388-6125.
The Empty Seat Program provides busing to students who do not qualify for transportation, District transfers, Special programs, etc., providing you live near a bus route and that there is an open seat available.
The program is based on a year-to-year system due to annual route changes in the District. Therefore, a student may qualify for an empty seat one year and not qualify the next year. Empty seats are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. If a student receives an empty seat bus pass and the bus is full of regular bus students, the driver of the bus may refuse to allow the empty seat rider on the bus. (Empty seats are basically provided on a “stand-by” status).
The parent and student are given forms that must be completed and signed by both parent and student and returned to the front office. The forms are then sent to the Transportation Department. RETURNING THE FORM DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY GIVE THE STUDENT A SEAT ON THE BUS. The SBCUSD Transportation Department will determine what seats are available. Cajon High School does not determine seat availability. Transportation will send the bus passes to the school site approximately eight weeks after school starts for those students accepted into the program. At this time, qualifying students will be called to the office to pick up their bus pass. Students must abide by the program rules and regulations stated in the contract or the student will be dropped from the program immediately.
