6th Grade Procedures

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The following is an updated memo to ensure that you and your child are aware of the procedures and expectations for homework, grading, absent procedures, etc.

Homework Frequency:

ELA CORE- given weekly on Mondays, due on Fridays

Language Arts- dependent on week

Math- given daily Mon.-Thurs., due the next day

Science- given a minimum of 1-2 days a week

AVID- Clean and organize binders daily

Grading Communication:

Homeroom teachers will give a current grade report showing missing assignments from all classes, on or around the 15th of every month.  It is to be signed by a parent in order for students to be allowed to make up any missing assignments.  Students will have two weeks from the date the report was given to turn in any missing assignments for no higher than a 65% C grade

  • Work may only be made up within the current month.  Work from previous months will not be accepted.

Make- Up Work:

  • Students who have made little or no effort in class on a daily basis may not request “make-up” or “extra work” to try and raise their grade. (This is based on teacher discretion)
  • Absences-Students are responsible for collecting any missing assignments and homework, and it must be returned within a week.  Parents may not call the day of the student’s absence to request missed work to be ready by the end of the school day.
  • If you anticipate your child missing school for 2-3 days, and are going to request work, teachers must be given a minimum of 48 hours to prepare work.
    • Students will only receive credit if work is 100% completed upon their return.  If students return without work they’ll receive no credit.

Extra Credit:

Extra credit will only be given to entire class, upon teacher discretion, and will not be given on an individual basis.

Parent/ Teacher Communication:

The best way to communicate with the 6th grade team is through email.  If parents do not have access to email they may call the front office to leave a message. Please leave working phone number that the parent can be contacted at.
